On 4 June 2026, at Tay Bac University, a working delegation of the Son La Provincial People’s Committee led by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, held a working session with the University to discuss coordination in training and developing human resources, scientific research and technology transfer for the province’s socio-economic development, and to agree on solutions to remove difficulties and create favourable conditions for the University’s development.
The delegation included leaders of the Office of the Provincial People’s Committee; the Departments of Education and Training, Home Affairs, Finance, Science and Technology, Agriculture and Environment, Construction and Foreign Affairs; representatives of the Son La Business Association; and leaders of the People’s Committees of To Hieu, Chieng Sinh and Chieng Coi wards.
Tay Bac University was represented by Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Party Secretary; Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh, Deputy Party Secretary and Rector; members of the Party Committee and the Board of Rectors; and leaders of affiliated units. Also attending were Mr. Vu Viet Thang, General Director of Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company, and representatives of businesses in the province.
Opening the session, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet affirmed that Tay Bac University plays an important role in training human resources, conducting research and transferring technology for the socio-economic development of Son La and the Northwest. He highly appreciated the University’s recent achievements, especially its contributions to training, research, international cooperation and the practical application of scientific and technological advances.
He stressed that, as Son La promotes high-tech agriculture, processing industries, tourism and digital transformation, the demand for high-quality human resources is growing. The session was therefore an occasion for the province and the University to review their coordination, agree on solutions to enhance cooperation, remove obstacles and further promote the University’s role in local socio-economic development.

Delegates heard Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh present a report on the University’s development in 2023–2026 and its development orientation to 2035. The University has continued to grow, gradually affirming its position as a centre for training, research and technology transfer in the Northwest. Its academic staff includes 8 associate professors, 105 doctors and 216 master’s degree holders; its training scale remains above 6,000 students, with more than 90% of graduates employed. Research has made positive progress, with 44 international publications and 6 specialised research groups. International cooperation has been strengthened, with 95 international delegations received from the Republic of Korea, Australia, Japan, the United States and many other countries; around 1,400 international students trained; and cooperation maintained with nine northern provinces of Laos. The University’s facilities cover more than 63 hectares, meeting the needs of training, research and learners.

Tay Bac University aims to become a multidisciplinary, modern, distinctive, application-oriented higher education institution of high reputation and quality. By 2035, it aims to become a key regional university in the Northwest, with member schools including the School of Education, the School of Economics – Agriculture and Forestry, the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the School of Information and Communication Technology, and more than 15,000 students. By 2045, it aims to meet advanced international quality standards.
The University also frankly pointed out difficulties that need to be addressed: a shortage of professors and associate professors affecting the opening of new programmes; continuing difficulties in admissions; some joint training programmes not yet effective; and limited financial resources affecting operating conditions and educational quality. In addition, facilities and equipment for training, practice and research have not been invested in comprehensively; some approved construction projects have not yet started; and there are outstanding issues related to land and public assets.
After hearing the report and recommendations, delegates discussed many important issues concerning the University’s future development. Leaders of departments and the Provincial Business Association expressed their attention, support and responsibility in helping remove difficulties and create conditions for the University’s sustainable development.
Discussions focused on solutions to improve training quality and staff development; developing land for the University’s development strategy; the autonomy roadmap of the Chu Van An Primary, Lower and Upper Secondary School; strengthening English and ethnic language training; improving training in the province’s strengths such as agriculture and tourism; and promoting cooperation with businesses in training, practice, internships and recruitment – with the aim of building Tay Bac University into a key higher education institution of the Northwest.

Concluding the session, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet commended the University’s outstanding achievements, especially its important contributions to training human resources, research and technology transfer for the socio-economic development of Son La and the Northwest.
He emphasised that Son La is entering a new stage of development with increasingly high demands for quality human resources, science, technology and innovation. Tay Bac University therefore needs to continue its role as the region’s training and research centre, strengthen the link between training, research and local needs, and focus on training human resources in fields where the province has potential and advantages, such as agriculture, tourism, processing industries, renewable energy and digital transformation.
Regarding the University’s proposals, the Chairman broadly agreed and assigned the relevant departments to coordinate, study and advise on solutions within their authority. He also requested that the contents discussed be translated soon into specific coordination programmes, plans and roadmaps to ensure feasibility and effectiveness.
